bn peters i wasn’t saying it ISN’T slow, i was just saying how it isn’t a mistake. Half the speed of a sloth is slow

@Stanton Clark If they go 2 miles every 24 hours (0.083 mph), that's about half the speed of a sloth.

I think it’s deeply ironic that for an area banning a military presence relies almost entirely on military transport. The U.S. Navy and Air Force have dedicated ships and aircraft specifically used to ferry people to Antarctica.

please use the metric system what the fuck is a farenheit? water freezes at 0 is so much more logical and a system based on a constant 10 is so much more afficient easy and reliable plz america you are the only one. we learned your language plz learn our metric system

@jaca van heesch scientist that work within the states seem to mostly use American Standard.. they also use Latin. Do you know what a Canis lupus familiaris is?.. I prefer German Shepherd... doctors and drug dealers use metric when dealing with less than an eighth of an oz.. grams and milliliters. As soon as it gets to 3.5 grams its an eighth of an ounce (8 ball)!.. mechanics use 2 tool sets- metric and standard.. metric to work on foreign cars... all joking aside metric does make more sense in most cases.. what it needs is something in between a centimeter and a meter.. saying someone is 6ft tall sounds better than 2 yards or 1.83 meters or 182.9 centimeters..or 72 inches.. my grandfather said that in the 70s they made a major national effort in all the school systems to convert to metric but it just did not work... well, that's all I have to say. Peace

T OB doesnt your whole scientific comunity use the metric system becouse it is easier? also what language am i speaking with you right now? i whould rather speak my own but we all have to make concessions when it comes to making systems function better and integrating some parts of the world. plz look up metric and imperial comparison to see how confusing your system realy is.

If you notice we do what we want to do in the United States and we get away with it.. we don't like the metric system. The only thing we use it for is to measure some drugs like cocaine and marijuana and then not completely..

I miss working on the C-17s that we’re getting ready to go or we’re returning from the Deep Freeze mission to McMurdo. Many of my friends were lucky enough to go, but not so lucky myself. Also, very grateful for the Aeromedical Evacuation teams that are always ready to risk life to save someone in need of emergency medical evacuations out of Antarctica.

It's important and contributing to science, special enough since it's in antarctica, and it seems like a relaxed life for at least 40 days at a time. Just have to drive the tractor for work, eat/sleep/live, and repeat lol. It looked like they were pulling a decent sized shelter on the train of sleds that was attached behind the tractor, so maybe it's not too uncomfortable except for the walk back and forth. I wonder if they'll ever make some cool specialized vehicle with the shelter attached to the cab like some of the manned Mars rover concepts, maybe they'd even make it partially automated.
