Hey Scotty. I had just tried for the first time to drive an automat car when I bought this 3 months ago
It's a 2004 Ford Focus Mk1 with aut. transmission. (1,6 gasoline, 5 door hatch, 100 hp, 175.000 km) Live in a flooded city and drove it thru very high water on one very flooded city street only. It's always raining here in Denmark. Car seems fine, but do you think I damaged it? How can I check if there's water in the gears? Thanks for your channel, great info all around. greetings from Irma, Denmark

The car crashed, the battery caught fire, not sure about the drivers ability to get out (perhaps he was unconscious?) but others could not open the door to rescue him because of the retractable door handles. However, even with non-retractable door handles. Most vehicles lock the doors when put in gear anyway making breaking a window necessary either way. Some cars are programmed in the event of a crash to stop the engine, apply a brake mechanism to avoid rolling, unlock the doors to allow rescue, and activate four-way-flashers to signal a problem.

Personally I think there is far too much reliance on electronics in cars these days. Sure, the makers love it because of repair prices going through the roof but when will we reach the point when people won't/can't buy new cars due to the running and repair costs?

Kills the idea of emergency. The simple cable system is a FAILSAFE. They killed the whole point.

This and brake hold is dangerous. My mom got a new car, and the first thing I said when she mentioned brake hold was to not use it so she doesn't forget to brake.

Hi Scotty, I'll tell you a funny story. My wife was learning to drive here in Germany at a large school of motoring (no names mentioned) and after about 20 lesson I said we could go to the test track and she could have a go in my Honda Civic. So I drove the can on there and we swapped places. The first problem we encountered was that the driving school had tweaked all of their diesel cars so that you only had to raise the clutch (no gas pedal) and the car set off without stalling. But could she start in my car in that way ticking over at 700rpm - no she couldn't..some hours later I had managed to teach her how you are meant to set off...Next up was the hill start.. you know where you use the handbrake.. oh dear.. that didn't work either because the school car was a brand new Golf with an automatic handbrake and using a manual one was impossible. Some hours later we had that learnt too.. Now I don't know how it is in the states but here in Germany your first car after the test is a bog standard think with a manual handbrake etc.. so please tell me what type of school was this where there was no possibility of learning how to drive a "real" car.....needless to say after that day we swapped driving schools..and we went with an older guy who knew how to drive properly....

Yeah my 2019 rav4 has sport mode normal mode and eco mode with a 8 speed transmission and that stupid emergency (computerized) brake. My car gets so confused with which gear it’s in. I think I’m just going to drive it sport mode. It seems to understand that. 😐

ALL the manufacturers are making EVERYTHING that used to be simple as complicated as they possibly can. This is done by design so as to make you bring your car in to the service department where they can charge you SOOOOO much it makes your car obsolete and they force you to buy a new one. The auto industry has turned into white collar crime that the mafia would envy.

My brothers' car got stuck on the drive way because he electronic hand break won't release when the battery dies. Good luck if you also have a standard transmission, your car won't lock either.

Kinda morphed from E break to parking breaks... Just replaced the e breaks on my 2014 Silverado during a regular rear brake job. I did the whole mess myself for $65.00. Wonder what an electric system in a 2020 would cost.

When people say that these brakes are called “Parking brakes” and not Emergency Brakes. If you use it for parking then it’s for parking. If you have to use the parking brake for stopping when your normal hydraulic brakes fail then it is an emergency brake...there is no argument.

Went to pass a car, got up to speed and let off the gas while in the next lane and the damn car slammed on the brakes. If the roads would have been slippery we'd have been screwed.

My new car(10 years old secondhand one) has electronic assisted breaks - it has problems being used together with handbrake on a hill, it would lock out(break pedal can't be used) and need to let the car row 3-4 meters back to unlock it or go forward. I thought this is a problem with my car, but after trying few more cars with few friends - they all had the issue. All cars had electronic assist and were from 2004 to 2015.

All because you all drive automatics and only use the park gear setting for parking. That is the parking brake. Usually used for ... parking. I have never heard of anyone using it in an emergency.

It's actually called a PARKING brake, because its intended purpose is to hold your vehicle still on a hill or other inclined surfaces.
