Ways Joker Completely Ignored The Comics

  • The filmmakers behind Joker have been clear that they never intended to adapt a specific comic with the movie. Now that we can all see the film for ourselves, it's obvious they meant it. Here are some of the biggest ways the Joker of Joker is different from the comics. Spoilers ahead!

Throughout Joker, Arthur Fleck undoubtedly lives in a world of fantasy. As he's watching a late night talk show with his mother, Arthur imagines himself in the audience, eventually being called up to the stage by host Murray Franklin. He has an imaginary relationship with his neighbor Sophie, thinking she's in love with him when she barely remembers his name.

These fantasies call every event in the film into question, making it easy to argue that the movie's climactic scenes are also a kind of fantasy. It's possible to interpret most of the film as simply Fleck's imagination, and that he's always been a patient at the mental institution we find him in at the end.

While the Joker of the comics is certainly no less prone to delusion, we're not seeing DC Comics solely from his point of view. Joker is not just a violent fantasy he's real, and his actions have consequences. While the Joker movie teases the possibility of the plot being a grand delusion of Arthur's, the Joker of the comics is a problem for everybody.

One of the more predictable events at the end of Joker is the slaying of Bruce Wayne's parents. As Gotham erupts in violence, the Waynes emerge from a theater showing 1981's Zorro: The Gay Blade, and Thomas Wayne steers them down an alleyway in hopes of avoiding the riots. Unfortunately, one of the clown-mask-wearing rioters spots the family and follows them. He calls out to Thomas Wayne and tells him he's going to give him what he deserves. He kills the couple, yanking off Martha Wayne's pearl necklace in the process, and leaves the young Bruce Wayne helpless with his parents' corpses. It's possible you've seen all of this before. Keep watching the video to see which ways Joker completely ignored the comics!

Do you consider the Movie Joker and the Comic Joker as two completely different characters?

Not really lol anyone who’s read the Bronze Age stories by Denny O’Neil or dark knight returns by frank miller could see the similarities and they even took some scenes straight from the pages like when he kissed the doctor on the talk show

No. The inclusion of the murders of the Waynes and the nods to The Killing Joke gives it a tie in to DC Comics universe.

Both jokers are very dark characters. He's a sociopath which is scary. He can feign affection and remorse when in actuality he has no idea what those feelings are.

I just can't see the big hype behind this joker. I get thst its his origin story, but how do you go to this joker to the genius diabolical one in dark knight. The thing is this joker is less rational and crazy. I don't see this style of character development into the genius we saw in dark knight. For fuck sake this jokers like an autistic one there's nothing likeable or rational about him the way the dark knight portrayed him as. Origin or not there's no layers of complexity to his character.

The last scean in Joker where joker says *"You wouldn't get it"* means Joker foresaw the future visioning it with his boundary broken mind, he saw future of Gotham, batman, and also he saw his mind is pure genius & can do anything. He dosnt lie and his joker makeup & outfit is an expression that how each & every human is truely a joker is this monetary system controlled by royals & masons. He also saw mankind's monetary system & law is a joke & what he must do. He clearly explained his understanding to 2faced harvey in Batmans Joker part in the hospital scean, he was not after money, he was after destroying the system of royals & freeing humanity from their hidden enslavement, he knew he was mankinds saviour & Killed anyone who was dog of system or corrupted.

Warner Bros did exactly what Marvel did to Wolverine's first solo film . Took a huge shit on the source material. I rather watch Captian Marvel again then this garbage film. This movie is just one big stupid joke.

OK, Arthur is an inpatient at Arkham, met the real 🃏 Joker, who told him his story before he escapes. That's why there was no name in the file. He fantasizes about being the 🃏 Joker, and decides to kill the Dr., as his contribution, and delusion that he could be a Joker like " the Joker". He lives vicariously thru the joker.

His point is that this stand alone film branched out to a complex route that deals with reality and fantasy. Which wasn’t really dealt with in the comics.

In the comics, as far as I know, Joker is a psychopath, and in this movie not. As someone said yet below, this is psychological drama rather than a superheroes movie.

I find the movie brilliant, magnificent anyway. I don't mind if it's more or less faithful to the original story. Definitely, it's one of the best movies ever, and that's all.

There is the guilt of a society with bullies and victims, a society with people that suffer from the syndrome of the nice guy, and within those layers there is a society with lack of empathy, sympathy and kindness.

This is an absolute truth, and this reality does not need of your approval to be what it is, because it has been built through the hatred, indifference and intolerance of each one of us.
