4/5. the one with the lake was the most confusing. the rest were pretty easy, iphone's bokeh still looks very artificial. though it's impressive on a small screen

Usually the edge gives it away and also the higher dynamic range before being processed. The blur of the background also gives it away because the iPhone cannot properly measure the distance and the amount of the blur that’s needed. \

That is absolutely insane. Every single picture I thought looked better was the iPhone. Im really blown away by that. Do you have a video that shows the video comparison? I'm about to start shooting videos for my podcast and instead of dropping a ton of money on a camera, I might be better off just upgrading from my X to the 11? Thanks a lot for making this btw.

I got all 5 because iphone blurs out the background more and focuses for attention to the subject

People continue to ask me, "You didn't take that photo with your phone did you?" when I post stuff on my Instagram.
And this is out of a sony a6000 with usually a sigma 16mm or sigma 56mm lens.
Yes, the gap is narrowing. Incredibly fast. And for everyday use, phones are absolutely incredible.

The fact that people have to ask me the above question is a testament to the fact that phones are clearly catching up. But even regular people can realize that I'm "likely" not using a phone for my photos. And this, with a pretty low end mirrorless camera from almost 6 years ago. If I was using, I dunno, a sony a7iii, canon eos r or nikon z6 the images I get would be even better.

It's all still very situational. While computational photography is making leaps and bounds quickly, I still think there's quite a bit of catching up to do. For example, at like 2000 ISO smartphone cameras still look like swiss cheese. And doing any kind of noise reduction still turns your image into a watercolor.

I'm not debating the fact that smartphones are getting REAL GOOD, REAL FAST. But, as with anything, the initial steps in things like low light performance, and bokeh, will be astounding in the beginning, but getting better results is going to be increasingly difficult and more expensive.

5 out of 5, but only because the iPhone (as well as most other smartphones) makes their bokeh look pretty synthetic, if you know what to look for, and if you know how an image with real bokeh taken using a camera and lens looks like. Additionally, once I figured out that the iPhone tends to over do it on the background blur in this comparison, it made it pretty easy to catch.

It was obvious.. If I check the blur but with detail and a lil less then its a DSLR.e0 The more blur with no detail (in blur) is Iphone

Generally Instagram photographers use dslrs because they don't want to miss a great scene if someone call them from mobilephone, also dslr feelings is much better than mobilephone, mobilephone algorithm is change your scene actually, its like decorate, but dslr shows more original, what you see. also if you find full analog dslr, taste is amazing, full analog dslr is not decorate your scene. For exam, old zenit dslrs👍🏻

Easiest to notice: iPhone is bluring single extending hairs, so if you see them on photo, than it is definitely camera. Moderate: the blured background leaves are more crystal clear on camera. The Hardest: the color palette is sometimes slightly more reach and saturated on camera photo

When the light falls, or you start needing speed, that's a different story.
Btw, you can't mark computational photography cellphone photos as "unedited" - it's misleading as to the sensor's capabilities.
