Happy New Year everyone! We hope you enjoyed the video!
And for those of you who caught our mistake, good work! I quoted gross vehicle weight for the TRD Pro not curb weight. I'm going to blame James, only because he's the one that looked that number up, and currently he's on vacation so he can't defend himself. Speaking of which, check out a photo on the @thethrottlehouse instagram of James with his first car. He wasn't around to stop me from posting it... Cheers!

Love seeing videos like this one, for that I thank you. I also am a proud owner of a 05 4Runner SR5 4WD. Got mine for around 6.5k with tax. Additionally, I did some new upgrades ; new suspension/ shocks with 3" lift, new clippers and brakes, GoodYear Duratec tires, blackout LED headlights, safari snorkel, safari cargo basket with rope rescue kit, Pioneer head unit with Apple car play, Diamond Audio speakers system, and that's about it. All I need is a new hot GF to drive around lol!

@Dominique Stephenson your still better off than me although the pathfinder is powerful its a unibody and it went through a lot of oil. My 91 Runner was also a 3 door but a hard top. Road trips involving long uphill highways required 3rd gear to hold 90 to 100 km on a full load. If the frame wasnt totally rotted i would still be driving it tbh

Koexistence13 -yes, technically 3 dr including the rear hatch & tailgate. Mine was blue & white. Certainly not overpowered lol, but that little motor was torquey and fine off road. Yes again! The one MAJOR complaint I have with my 4th gen is no manual transmission available.

joeracer302 - nope the V8 came in all three trim levels as an option. The only major differences between the V8 & V6 models Is full time 4wd for the V8 and part time for the V6. Also the V8’s came with a 5speed auto whereas the 03-05 had a 4speed auto. After 05 all models had the better transmission. The V8 can tow 7500 (I think) vs my V6’s 5000 lbs. The gas mileage penalty is only about 1mpg less so I plan to sell my 03 Sport V6 to my daughter in-law (she LOVES it) and buy an 07-09 V8 limited or Sport. The Limited of all years is the upscale version (leather heated seats, several other goodies). XREAS is great but in most cases must be eliminated to add a lift. The Sport has larger brakes and rims than the SR5 or Limited. They are all great trucks, even 2WD 4Runners are great on gravel, dirt and small obstacles.

I bought my 4Runner Brand new years ago...haven't had any issues...still runs like new with 189k+ original miles...and its 4x4. Been on deep snow, slush, rain, on the same trip without chains, etc. Highly recommend!

Most lame off-road test I've ever seen. You only drove through mud puddles and up a few small hills. WTF.

Bought my 2007 Sport Edition with V8 in 2016 with only 65k miles and except for a bad rust spot on the back hatch, perfect condition. Did cost a good bit more than $6700, whether CAD or US. Only has about 97k now. I do hate the climate control system as these guys did. Might be the last vehicle I ever have to purchase.

the only thing thats changed is the price. You are paying top premium prices for 1990s tech. It works but its expensive now.

Is the older 4 runner still 4x4? Just curious because I have a 4 runner that’s not 3”4x4 and it’s gone through mud and snow just fine. But some of the stuff in this video looked pretty deep so I assume both are 4x4?

Curious why the Canadian version PRO has the side mirrors with blinkers when the US version does not?! Definitely makes more sense to have them, safety wise =( Also without KDSS, they have more body roll and are less stable vs KDSS equipped TRD Off-Road

Can you please stop judging the TRD Pro 4Runner on tight turning road conditions? This is literally the one trim level on the 4runner that you buy for regular off road use.

You guys need to start testing TRD Off-Road 4Runners with the KDSS option instead of the TRD Pro for all around practical road use with added on off road capability. The TRD Off-Road Premium has almost the same off road capability of the Pro, but will ultimately satisfy the driver more on paved road conditions with KDSS. (bonus, KDSS even helps with body sway in some off-road situations)

TRD Pro is for strictly off roading. It is not built to be comfortable taking corners.

The rear diff lock makes a huge difference, and the tires are not as good on the older one.

Come on... any basic SUV can go through a few puddles. And to answer your question... unless you have deep pockets and can pay cash for your vehicle, you should never buy new. Depreciation is ridiculous in any form of new.

Save 15k start w SR5, do own lift, add own Air locker out back that will work in 2wd and get a 3rd row seat, then add the $5500 TRD blower still made by magnussen and have 395hp from that 6 pot

Honestly, the only complaint i have is that it is underpowered besides that I love the fuck out of that vehicle.
