It's probably too late to tell you this but there is an easy way to pull those plug wires through that tube. Leave the ends off of the new ones. Number them and tape the ends together. Then attach them to the old wires and have some one push them in the tube as you pull the old ones out.

What's sad is everyone and everything that was around, has touched or has been driven past in this car is probably long gone! Just think about that so much history this car has seen that nobody will ever know about.

RUNNING A STARTER MOTOR THAT LONG WILL OVER HEAT IT AND BURN UP. YOU NEED TO BE CHECKING THAT 6 VOLT STARTER MOTOR TO BE SURE YOU ARE NOT COOKING IT.

Starting the engine in its present condition did probably more damage than anything else. It should have been totally dismantled, cleaned and lubricated.

Yea I guess that is what caused the pitting on the exhaust seats. I have done 50+ first starts just on You Tube and I am suppose to tear each one down.

I never thought it's possible to start an engine with these plug wires.

That poor car. Couldn't you have at least changed the oil, given it some proper plug leads and squirted a little diesel down the bores before you started cranking?

                              Johnathan,
That Franklin sounds like a powerful engine for that day and time. I worked on Ford Model Ts with 20-22 horsepower and Model As with 40 horsepower. How many horsepower would this Franklin engine generally produce?

People today: eww old cars are so unreliable and not convenient at all. You constantly have to work on them
Ancient cars: I may not be practical but I’ve been off the road for 71 years and cranked up just fine watchu mean

Honestly though, I’d much rather constantly work on an old mechanical engine than a modern engine with miles of wiring

Old engines the first thing I do is compression check. Those rings can rust to the piston and then don't work so well. Those wires are a source of concern too. I think regular spark plug wires before even trying would be prudent.

The Franklyn had individual cylinders. I remember I worked on one in 1952o53 at the gas station. Its air-cooled.i was 10 years old. those updraft carburetors need a good vacuum.

This is 37 minutes of "pissing in the wind". (AND it was EDITED!) You're NOT going down the road with those wires.
At least grab plug wires from one of the derelics in the yard. A timing light woulda got the "retarded" issue set correctly in 2 minutes, and you didn't even open up the carb to check if the jets were clear??
Using a common propane torch to supplement the intake air/fuel is an easy way to get an engine to fire, or Starting fluid, or AT LEAST a gas-soaked rag on the inlet (dangerous).

A large part of the energy of the spark would be lost through arcing to the engine block.
