What you don' seem to talk about is the Youtube $ they could have made from their Lambo vids.
Youtube pays $3 for every 1,000 views and just for fun, I counted 52 millions view for that single lambo playlist. If you do the math that's a possible $156,000 just in Youtube $ and we are not even talking about sponsors or merchs sales (they sell a lot of their shirts and hoodies). So even if they only make a $10K profit selling out their lambo after rebuilding it, it was VERY WELL WORTH IT. Happy for them, I;m a fan they deserve every penny out of this.

Excellent reporting and I would say you are being VERY generous to these (not very talented) amateurs. People have to realise that the vast majority of the 'audience' for the build are pre-pubescent dreamers, 'boy racers' and people who could never in their lifetime DREAM of being able to afford a car of even half the value of a PROPERLY rebuilt project (this was poor quality work - as are all their projects - the mudguard principle - Shiney on the top but full of shit underneath :P). NOBODY in their right mind would buy this. - hence it's value is as a parts car in reality. The car is STILL not aligned properly, it never was. They have not even got the most basic body jig. The front end panel fit is way off. I notice they have 'hastily' produced a 'vid' quoting their costs - rather 'underestimated' by around 20% in reality.
I love the bit where they say they haven't included labour costs 'if' someone brought such a car to them for the work. ROFLMFAO !!!! - that would NEVER happen, nobody who has money to buy even a damaged Lambo would trust these muppets with a rebuild !! - never in a million years.
Their ONLY way of keeping their heads above water is the income from YT and also heavily depended on the 'bank' of mum and dad. Even if they got 300k a year from YT, then they would still be losing money at a ridiculous rate. They need to allow for a 'wage'. 100k a year is nothing in that game (which they are pure amateurs in) - split 300k less tax amongst the players and they end up with 'not a lot' when you add the losses on EVERY vehicle they botch together as yet another 'mudguard' car.
Entertaining channel (#Goonzquad) but, unfortunately - for totally the wrong reasons. Laughing at them, not with them. I find it fascinating and hilarious to watch them stumble from one disaster to the next. The new 2000 project - boy, that is really starting to be a laugh a minute as they stumble from on incoherent headscrath to another. Enjoy :)

So, just because they have fun on their projects, does mean they're untalented amateurs? You're so full of salt it isn't even funny, go ahead and do what they do, I'd bet that you'd stumble from one disaster to another and yet, not fix anything. It's so easy to judge them cause they're young and from the name of their channel and content they seem to poke fun at trolls, haters and jealous people who can't do shit in their spare time, let alone fix a car. So in the end you hate on them because they don't tolerate shit from anyone, their amount of work is visible regardless of your biassed half baked opinion. I imagine you'd leave them a dislike everytime they post a new video, just for the heck of it. These guys seem to know a hella lot more than they're showing, but their own videos are only for entertainment purposes only. They're definitely not stupid.

I agree about the guy that wants perfect and can pay the perfect price, fine. But, there's guys out there that want to get the Lambo on a budget and can barely afford the salvage rebuilt one. I'd imagine he's ok with a salvage that was documented on video and repaired by two "Legit" guys that really care to get it right.

Thanks for your post on the subject. I enjoy the Goonzquad very much and always have wondered what their cost of doing business actually is. Even a ball park figure is close enough for me. In my view I would ignore the critics on here as you haven't violated any sacred proprietary business trust by offering your opinions not to mention you were indeed very complimentary towards the Goonzquad boys...

Interesting analysis! Thanks for the breakdown. I did note a couple of omissions in it: Although Safelight did the windshield work, the windshield itself came in a crate from Exotic Auto Salvage, so I doubt it would have been covered by the sponsorship. Also, on the paint, if you watch all the videos back-to-back (as I just did because I just discovered the build this morning!) you'll notice that they did all of the paintwork themselves -- no help from the booth owner. They did mention that the clearcoat cost a thousand dollars, so that's a paint job that was still far from free.

I'd say the residual value of the parts car is probably fairly significant -- as you note, the dented doors still sold for $2000 or something, and the one for sale didn't look much better than the one they took off the car. The parts car also has lots of suspension pieces, front-end all-wheel-drive components, air suspension system, and so forth that they didn't use. Also a few thousand in takeoffs from the repaired car -- the left-side front fender they replaced was in easily-repairable shape, and the original bumper wasn't damaged.

Finally, there's the fact that that $6000-or-so front bumper and $9000 exhaust system are straight-up optional enhancements to the car. While it's worth considering what that does for resale, it's not really fair to include those when comparing to "what if you bought one that didn't need repair," since they would want to add those to any car they bought. Also, consider that on a non-repair car, you'd still need to match the bumper paint, which wouldn't be cheap, so there's value there.

But, as you say, in the end analysis, the content value was priceless. As was the fun they clearly had doing it.

These two are incredibly skilled at rebuilding. Their aluminium welding is a good example of the high degree they set for themselves, especially as they both seem to be so young, yes I am an old codger, it is refreshing to see a pair of young men with such high standards. People easily forget that and also the countless hours of hard work that go into these rebuilds. The profit they make is clearly by creating great content for YT that offers profitable opportunities for automobile related ads (cars, tuning, after market accessories), so with 1m view average per video the easily make 5k every other day.

Cause it can sometimes not be worth it.
