“...which aptly enough are the same parts of the brain that we share with lizards, including reptiles.”

Last I checked lizards were reptiles, not vice versa lol.

Toothless is NOT a slave because in "gift of the night fury" he only leaves to find Hiccups helment, he comes back. Also he was heart-broken to leave Hiccup in HTTYD 3

I have a dragon, a bearded dragon, and she plays fetch and knows what "come" means, she also likes to snuggle which is super cute and I didn't know was something they did. But yes, I would say it is different than with my dog.

Edit: I didn't have to use snacks to get her to learn "fetch" and "come" she just watched my cats and my mouse do it and caught on cause I didn't really try to teach her, she just started responding to the commands. But again, very different than training my dog, my dog did it cause dog reasons but I think my dragon did it because she saw that the cats and mouse were getting attention because they were doing what I wanted and she wanted attention too? Not sure.

Just outside of the whole emotions thing, and to get a little dark, what about physical punishment based training? I find it odd that the method used to train most of the more wild animals wasn't mentioned even once.

Specially since these DRAGONS can be big (or small) depending on the species that, it could be the same as how to train Pokémon...

There is one problem with this theory, If toothless has stockholm syndrome then so should cats, dogs, and the other dragons who aren't kept against their will.

In real life dragons would've been birds. Well prehistoric birds. So they wouldn't have a lizard brain but a parrot like brain. Meaning that they could've been trained. And still act similar to the actual movie. Though the way hiccup trained toothless was inhumane, the possibility for them to form a bond was still likely to happen.

Good theory... But is the brain of the dragon more evolved to resemble one that can recognize and give in to emotions or more lizard-like... basically what I am asking is, is this canon to the dragons anatomical structure or no?

Birds are generally quite social and many species, tame and domesticated, are trained to perform complex tasks both for utility and for enrichment. The way that you tame a bird of prey is actually pretty similar to how Hiccup tames Toothless in the movies, down to controlling their movement and everything.

From the "evidence" in the movie, dragons are the smartest animal on earth, especially night furies.
