Every Americana Finish in UFC History

  • Published: 14 January 2020
  • Relive every official americana finish, also known as a keylock, in UFC history thus far. More popular in the early part of the promotion's history, the americana is a rare finish inside the Octagon. The most notable americana came from light heavyweight champion Jon Jones against Vitor Belfort at UFC 152.

The Kimura and Americana seem pretty rare these days. Very surprising especially since you don't need to give up top position in order to attain the submission. Even the straight armbar can get a tap if done correctly.

Only 4 or 5 Americana's in the entire UFC history. This proves what all Jiu-Jitsu fighters know - it's almost impossible to catch a trained fighter in an Americana armlock. It's too easy to defend and to see coming. It's much more effective and easy to achieve on the street, against untrained opponents.

          • Who want the dancehall fi stop?

literally an amateur submission...so yeah, if youre a pro and get finished by that, something went wrong.

I swear there's still early day UFC fights I still haven't seen yet. They got them locked up somewhere and leak them occasionally. I don't remember seeing that first fight.

every triangle finish would be pretty dope. It'd be at least a 20minute video I assume. How about every uppercut KO or something like that?

The hay days of no defense. Tap out was the defense... while in Japan real MMA was already established and fighters there already knew about submissions and submission defense

ben Cooper its just that they're not that hard to defend. And a little harder to set up if the opponent knows what you're doing. You used to see a lot more triangles and arm bars too. Back then there were people who were still white belts competing at UFC level. Complete guess but I'd say more than half the roster were blue belts or lower.

My favorite submission, always hit it in the gym. Combine it with a good kimura, and you have a very effective combination of submissions that can be hit from a variety of positions. And in a real fight, it's game over if your shoulder gets snapped. Jon Jones Americana against vitor was excellent technique, an amazing submission against a serious bjj black belt.
