Someone please answer - is Marty a mechanic by trade? Or a diesal fitter? How does he know how to start all these old things? I am amazed by his skill set.

Self taught, I buy the workshop manual for every vehicle I own, it becomes second nature after a while, I don't claim to be an expert but I can usually work my way through most mechanical problems.

Wrong battery. You need a 6v for that tractor. Not a 12v.

Usually yes, but this one has been converted to 12v

I've heard rumours about a couple of old dozers being left outside to rust away so I'll go and check them out soon

First I'll do all necessary maintenance and repairs, then I'll make a centre grader blade for it to fill the potholes on our driveway

You fuckin thief, you should have paid at least $500 you cheap skate. But I did notice the Kiwi accent and the speed at which you said "Yes $200 is good". I guess the poor old farmer didn't know what he was sitting on.

Tractor doesn't have many hours on it at all!!!! I would buy it today!!!!! Or tonight!!!! I have a 1955 Super A I KNOW ABOUT USE AND HOURS!!! IT DOESNT HAVE MANY AT ALL!!!!!

We had plenty that did get away with it, but a lot that didn't too...

A lot of the rings problems is that it sits there, some pistons up, some down, in either case the bores either side will often rust, and often the rings themselves will 'seize' to the bores, the sudden shock of a start can often literally break chunks off them... This is obviously not good if you want to get it running again afterwards, and means replacing often hard to get parts and a complete engine stripdown and reconditioning... A good long soak and gentle pressure with a cracker bar is less likely to break bits off them
