Weird. Idk the standard in japan but the beef looks just full of fat and also the cook shouldnt have covered the meat but cook the surface as soon as he could. Id say 4/10

144$ is not really that much if you think of it. You can pay 40€ for a lunch in some good european restaurant and you don't get even half of such a service and quality of food. This is three times as much but you get the chef serving you the whole time and very rare and unique piece of meat. I wouldn't pay that much however.

Unless you have access to a specialty butcher and LOTS of cash, you might have a hard time getting it.
It's Wagyu. Basically means "Japanese Beef", comes from special cows that are only bred in Japan. There are different regions of Wagyu, like I'm sure you've heard of Kobe before. All Kobe Wagyu comes from cows raised and killed in the Kobe prefecture. In America, the meat grades are like Choice and Prime. In Japan, it's based on a fat marbling score. What he had there is A5, the highest grade meaning the best and most fat marbling.
Depending on the actual cut of beef you get (like strip, ribeye, etc) you're looking at around $110 - $200 per pound.

It's also difficult to handle at home, if you're inexperienced. Unlike regular beef that you can touch, you can't really touch Wagyu. I'm sure you noticed he was using tongs to move the meat from the board to the grill. It was for sanitary reasons, it's because the fat in Wagyu will melt if touched. It begins melting at room temp, and melts faster with the heat of your hands.

There is even a prefecture in Japan dedicated to garlic. It's pretty interesting the things made with garlic in Takko-Town in Aomori Prefecture. The garlic is sweeter, so it's used to make Garlic Coke, Garlic ice cream, special garlic ramens and sauces. You should check it out.
