Another note- you should press / pound bearings in by hitting the outer edge / race, not the inner. That can stress / break the race or cause them to prematurely fail

My truck's broke down; let me limp it home.
20 min later- heck, let's do a gravel job instead. Then take it home lol

You should have looked on line how to get those bearings out. You installed it wrong also by beating on the inter race. Geeez

What's that old line...Experience is the best teacher? Well done Andrew. Once again, you taught me something new. Thanks for taking the time to make a video, while making a repair, while trying to make a living and doing it as if its just another day at the office.

I know this vid is old but here's my 2 cents: Use one of your 3/4 sockets to push on the outer part of the bearing.
I've probably used my big sockets more for pressing bearings than as sockets.

An awesome tip I got from an old mechanic for removing the outer race if the outer race is all thats left. Weld it! Running a bead where the ball bearings sat heats up the metal and when it cools it shrinks. Practically falls out.

@17:50 I love to see how Andrew pounding that bearing in like, he's got to go in and whatever happens, happens. I would hit it on the outer part. Btw. I'm not a mechanic.

And dude.. you NEVER bang on the inner race. You go around the outer race in a circle and tap the bearing in. And when you pressed in the other bearing you again, pressed on the inner race. Place a bar across the bearing next time and press on the bar....

"WE'RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT" - lol straight outta Dave Chapelle's early standup special where he talks about turning down the music when you get pulled over because nobody wants to get their ass beat to a soundtrack, and then sings the chorus to this song. Hilarious that Andrew literally pulled over with this song on.

next time try putting the new bearing in really cold temperature so they shrink and for the other where you going to put them just make it hot a little and they will fit easy

Hey just for future reference, if you hit the inner race of a bearing like that it will sometimes destroy it. Under the circumstances, I think it worked fine but I am just passing on what I have learnt, and love to help others. Keep up the good vids!

I have been in Truck (Medium and Heavy) truck parts for years I would have not known that there was an internal snap ring there either. great job not getting killed lol. you have great mechanical knowleds and ability, your video presentation here just helps to demonstrate that none of us know everything. sometimes you gotta break stuff to figure it our for the next time. I might (MIGHT) have looked a littel harder when I start bending handles on the 20 ton press but in fairness maybe not. I have simply pressed a lot of bearings and due to that there is the possibility that I might have taken a closer look in the center at that point. I AM NOT CRITISIZING just making an observation. great job and good work.

I am surprised that Ford didn't design that pulley with open back bearings and a grease zerk. There is plenty of room for one and nothing else around it that would shear it off as the pulley spins. Nice work without a service manual, sometimes this is what it takes to learn how to repair this older equipment. He won't forget about that snap ring next time!!

Always press on the outside race when doing that. If youre pressing it onto a shaft (I.D. of bearing is touching part) then you always press on the inner race

Andrew, it's better to exert any force needed to seat a bearing onto the race side, instead of on the inside. You tapped it in against the inside of the bearing. All that tapping force goes thru the balls (or needles) of the bearing right on the rolling surface of the race. That surface is not designed to handle static shocks. That surface is designed to handle the load of moving bearing balls (or needles). So press or strike the outside ring next time. Just use a larger socket or pipe.
