This is "the new norm" with a state run my progressive Democrats, power outages for days if not weeks, feces and vomit and urine and filthy bums littering the sidewalks, highest gas prices in the nation, highest property taxes, highest sales taxes, welcome to the new third world.

There's a serious issue when Californians are still relying on/trusting a utility company that filed for bankruptcy this year to continue to provide reliable electricity. They're protecting their infrastructure assets, they don't give a shit about you.

Guess what, the rest of America cares nothing about California crying. You elected idiots to run the state. Requiring PG&E to invest in your pipe dream renewable energy scheme, which in turn reduced its capital to adequately fund the maintenance for traditional energy sources.

This is the dumbest and the stupidest thing ever. Where I live in Texas, the electric company never intentionally shut off power when there is a hurricane that is coming (power outages where unplanned and caused by the weather itself but never by the utility completely intentionally shutting off power).

                        1. "Californians Learning That Solar Panels Don’t Work in Blackouts"
                        Oct. 10, 2019
Rooftop systems need batteries to operate when grid is down
Millions have lost power in outage to prevent more wildfires

Californians have embraced rooftop solar panels more than anyone in the U.S., but many are learning the hard way the systems won’t keep the lights on during blackouts.

That’s because most panels are designed to supply power to the grid -- not directly to houses. During the heat of the day, solar systems can crank out more juice than a home can handle. Conversely, they don’t produce power at all at night.

So systems are tied into the grid, and the vast majority aren’t working this week as PG&E Corp. cuts power to much of Northern California to prevent wildfires.

The only way for most solar panels to work during a blackout is pairing them with batteries. That market is just starting to take off. Sunrun Inc., the largest U.S. rooftop solar company, said hundreds of its customers are making it through the blackouts with batteries.

“It’s the perfect combination for getting through these shutdowns,” Sunrun Chairman Ed Fenster said in an interview. He expects battery sales to boom in the wake of the outages.

And no, trying to run appliances off the power in a Tesla Inc. electric car won’t work, at least without special equipment.

                        2. "California Man Reliant on Oxygen Dies 12 Minutes After PG&E Cut Power"
A Northern California man reliant on an oxygen tank to breathe died 12 minutes after power company Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) cut off electricity to his home, fire officials said Friday 11 Oct 2019.

Robert Mardis, 67, died roughly 12 minutes after the California power company cut off power to his home and the surrounding area.

Fire personnel responding to a 3:40 a.m. call found the man unresponsive on the floor wearing his oxygen equipment around his nose.

Mardis’s family said he had a lot of health issues and had battery-operated equipment at the ready in case something happened, but he could not reach his battery-operated tank in time.

“He had health issues,” Mardis’ daughter, Marie Aldea, told KXTL. “He had really bad COPD, which didn’t help, and he had congestive heart failure and other health issues, but the power going off and him not being able to get to his oxygen is, I believe, is what did it.”

But an autopsy report completed Friday afternoon 11 Oct 2019 concluded that the Mardis died of severe coronary artery atherosclerosis and not because of the power outage, the Sacramento Bee reported.

PG&E—California’s largest utility company— announced Monday that large parts of Northern California could face blackouts to prevent wildfires from starting.

The company added that it would shut off power to 29 counties between Wednesday morning and Thursday afternoon 10 Oct 2019 because of the dry air and 30 mile per hour (mph) wind gusts that could start potentially catastrophic wildfires.

the company wouldnt have to worry about getting sued for wildfires if the local and state government allowed more controlled burns but the extreme tree huggers will block controlled burns even though forest burns are a natural process especially in dry areas. the blame is not solely on the company. ask your representatives for more burns

I am really concerned about how negligent PG&E is and how far they will go.  Shutting off our power is reckless!  While I don't want to see what happened in Paradise reoccur, don't you think the proper resolution would be to fix the problems with the power lines, transformers, etc., so that what happened in Paradise does not happen again? But no, they rather turn off all of our electricity!!!  However, that can create lots of problems!!!  Not only are businesses losing money, but residents without generators (and I bet many if not most do not have generators in place as they are very expensive) are losing food.  And, since most of the grocery stores and restaurants are also closed, they won't be able to get food (and even if they did, how would they cook it?).  Furthermore, and more importantly, what if there was an emergency?  People will not be able to call for help if their phones are dead!  And, if there was a major disaster, some people will not be able to get gas to leave because the gas pumps will be closed!  I can go on and on about how dangerous and reckless PG&E is being!  We have a right to have our power on, we paid for these services, and PG&E should be forced to fix the problems not create new ones and possibly even bigger ones!  And, our government should put a stop to this!!!!  Such a shame--California, the most beautiful state with influential people living in such times--it does not make sense!

PG&E gets sued into bankruptcy. The government was taken by surprise when they were given months notice what this would happen. The people are outraged because PP&G cuts power so they won't get sued again. Am I missing anything? Looks like California is about nationalize their power grid.

That assumes you can get gas. You can hook 12v car batteries in parallel for storage. You need to have ventilation because they will release some hydrogen gas, which is explosive. At full charge they will be over 13 volts. 12 volts is 50% discharge, the safe limit. Get a Battery MINDer to desulfate the batteries. You can do this for less than the cost of a small generator. Some people who have generators never run them until they are needed, and then find they don't work. You start your car almost every day. Small cars have 85 amp alternators, bigger ones 120 amps. This is quite a bit of juice.

This is reality, these conditions will be more extreme each year. It’s dystopian that this is what we are mad about. “It’s not sustainable” neither is our western way of living that put us in this predicament in the first place. Westerners are such princesses.
